My Baby is Growin' Up!

Today was one of those days when I realized my baby is growing up.

I signed him up for middle school.

(insert Awwwwwws here)

They talked about lockers and changing classes and in-school sports and I just can't believe that I have a middle schooler.!

He's not even big enough to be a middle school!  He's so PUNY that I'm afraid someone might try to stuff him in one of those lockers!

But, never the less, my son is growing up.  I'm expecting things to change from this point.  While he still enjoys Legos and playing with his little brother now, I expect that teenage attitude to kick in and for him to start wanting his own space, spending more time in his room and finding a lot more things to be BABY STUFF.

Puberty!  Pimples!  Public hair!  OH MY!

Oh the joys of my baby growing up!

I'm Participating in Mama Kat's Writing Prompts this week.  I chose to write on the prompt:

Writer's Prompt: My Dreams at 18

This week, I decided to blog with good ol’ Mama Kat.  I haven’t blogged with her writing prompts in a while.  As a matter of fact, I’ve been quite the slacker on this blogging thing since… well, a long time.

This week, I’m choosing #1 of her five writing prompts to help get my creative juices flowing.

1.)  What was your big dream for yourself when you were 18 and had graduated from high school?

If you’d like to blog with Mama Kat, you can choose this prompt or any other of her 5 prompts for the week here.

************************>

When I was 18, I have to admit that I didn’t have a whole lot of ambition to do much with myself.  I was not college material and was not about to waste my time or my parents’ money pretending I was.  I had plans to go into the Air Force.

My father had just gotten out of the Army and I was use to being an Army Brat.  For me, it was an obvious choice.  I, like most teenagers, was more than ready to get out of my parents’ house and be grown.

What was I thinking?!?!?!

I was young, ready to do my own thing, and had NO intention of having any kids!  Nuh uh!  Wasn’t going to happen.  Didn’t like kids.  Had a sister 12 years younger than me and I was scarred.  Not scared.  SCARRED!  She. Was. A. Demon!
Aaaanywho, I procrastinated on this dream for the summer after graduation and on through the following year.

And then I got married.

To an Army Soldier.

GREAT!

That meant that I’d still get the benefits of being An Army Brat, without actually having to do the hard work…

Or so I thought!

Being an Army Spouse is quite possible just as hard as actually being the Soldier!  Oh, and that part about not having kids…

Writer's Workshop: Back at the Playground

Mama Kat has given another assignment and it is time for me to get to work.

Get over there and see the prompts and I bet you'll want to join in. Come on! You know you wanna!

This is the promt that I chose:

5.) Tell us about that time at the playground when that thing happened.

Okay, as soon as I read this, my mind immediately went back to I was just a little tot.

(cue the wavy lines of the screen of my thoughts)

I was in my first grade class, maybe. I really think that it was before that, like back when I was in pre-school.

I was was on the see-saw with another kid and I thought that it would be funny to jump off and watch him plummet to the ground and fall off. Seemed pretty innocent to me at the time. And quite funny.

So I waited until the perfect time when I didn't think he was paying a lot of attention, you know, right at the point when he was as high as he could be, and I jumped off!

Only it wasn't funny at all as he fell and the the handles of the tetter-totter smacked him right in his chin.

Yeah, he was bleeding and I'm pretty sure that he had to get stitches.

Of course my mom was called and this was just one of those things that I can't forget because she talked it about it for the years to come.

Needless to say, that was one stunt I never pulled again.

Writer's Workshop: I'm praying for.....

Today is another Writer's Workshop day hosted by Mama Kat @ Mama's Losin' It and today I'm gonna do the one about

1) SOMEONE i'M PRAYING FOR

Right now and for the last few days I have been praying for a baby that I don't know personally, feel like I know through his mother's blog.

Prayers for Stellan
This sweetie pie is currently in the pediatri ICU with SVT (Supra Ventricular Tachycardia=very high heart rate). This story touched my heart. This little one had a fight in utero with the same problem and doctors said then that he wouldn't make it.
Well, Miracles do happen when you trust in God.
He was born without any problems and has been strong since.
A few days ago things changed for him and now he is in the PICU fighting to keep his heart rate down.
So I have been checking is to MckMama's blog daily, praying along with the hundreds of others that are praying as she continues to keep the blog world update on Stellan's progress.
MckMama has so much faith in God. She has put everything in His hands in seems at peace with whatever decision He makes for her little man. (Much more calm than I coule ever be)
I have never met her, but have been a follow of her blog for a while and she has some of the cutest kids I've ever seem. They just make you wanna follow her unique stories.
So right now, I am praying for a family and a baby that I have never met, but whom I know needs constant prayers.
_______________________________________________________
I am also praying on a regular basis that Hubs DOES NOT have to go to Afganistan in a few month for a 12 month deployment. He has never been there, or Iraq or anywhere else over there, simply by the grace of God and I am hoping that he can avoid it for a few more years until he retires. He has word that his unit, MIGHT be going in August. I am praying all the time that this simply doesn't happen. I don't like being a single mom and that's exactly what it feels like when he's not here.
So pray with me cause I won't be so Mommy Fabulous is I'm alone!
****************************************************************
So THAT is who I am praying for! If you wanna join in on this one or if you wanna see what other Prompts Mama Kat has this week, get over HERE and check them out.

Writer'workshop: What usually doesn't slide.....

It's time for Mama Kat's assignment. Every week this Queen Bee gives out assignments so that those that may be plagued with writer's block have something to help them create a great post.

It's fun so get over here and pick your prompt. There's a few good ones to choose from.

This week, this is my choice, simply because this just happened yesterday.

3.) Describe a time you allowed your child to do something that you normally would not let slide.

Now, if you know me then you know that when it comes to my kids and behavior, I don't let ANYTHING slide. I'm one of THOSE moms that is on my kids about the way they act at all times.

don't tolerate bad behavior and I don't tolerate temper tamtrums.

Some may say that those tantrums are a way for kids to express themselves, but here in the Wise house, kids are not ALLOWED to express their feelings unless it is done in a way that mom feels exceptable. I WILL NOT have kids that yell or talk back to me and I will not have kids that throw things when they are angry..... Until yesterday.

Sir-Talks-A-Lot (of course it had to be a story about him) wanted to go outside after school yesterday. He said that he was going outside and I simply heard the door shut behind him.

Okay, I wasn't upset about the fact that he hadn't ASKED to go out but simply took it upon himself to think that it was okay to just walk out of my door. I was peturbed simply by the fact that he was going outside to play in his school jeans and I didn't want anymore holes to appear in anymore perfectly good pairs of jeans.

Yes, I shoulda been mad that he just walked out the door like he was a teenager rather than a 6 year old, but you choose your battles, right?

Well I sent him in his room and told him that he couldn't go outside right now. Partically because his big brother was still doing homework and I wanted him to have some supervision.

WELL, Sir-Talks-A-Lot decided that my decision was unexceptable and storms off to his room screaming at the top of hid lungs.

Right at that moment, I heard the roar of the BMW's engine in the driveway.

"Your dad's home so you might wanna straighten up!" I called back to the room in a calm motherly voice.

Now mind you, any other time I probably would have been back in the room with the BEAT-EM STICK (my plastic ruler I pull out for such occasions) ready for an all out war, but I ignored him. ME!!! I ignored him.

So, from me, he got away with a temper tantrum that I NEVER would have let him get away with on any other accasion. Hey, it has to be that I am still sick and I just didn't feel like going into battle.

Dad, on the other hand, went back in the room and saw that Sir-Talks-A-Lot had thrown every pillow, cover and sheet off of his bed and was banging his fist on the floor in rage and decided that if mom wasn't gonna do anything, he was gonna handle the problem.

He, by the way, doesn't tolerate temper tantrums either................

Writer's Workshop: Mean things done to my siblings

Mama Kat is giving out writing assignments as she does every week. These prompts are sure to help with those that sometimes experience writer's block. So get on over there and join for the fun of it because I would LOVE to hear what you guys have to say on either of her prompts.

Well, this week I can't resist doing prompt #5. Here it is:

5.) Write about something mean you did to a sibling growing up.

OMG! I can go on and on and ON on this subject as I think I was probably EXTREMELY mean to my little brother, simply because I could be and boy did he make it easy!

So, because I have so much to say about him, I'm gonna start with my little sister. Mind you, she was 12 years younger than me and it was kinda hard for me to be mean to her as much, but as she got older, and I was probably grown, I had a few opportunities.

The one BIG this I remember with B:

B use to get on my last nerve because every time she got out of the shower, she would prance around the house with just her towel on for about thirty minutes. I would always tell her to GO GET SOME CLOTHES ON! It didn't seem to matter whether we had company or not. There was ALWAYS something that alluded this teenager from the bathroom and throughout the house BEFORE getting dresses.

I warned her one day that the next time she paraded her naked tail around the house, I was gonna throw her outside BUTT NAKED! Well, low and behold, she chose to try me on this one and I'd bet she wished she never had. After getting out of the shower, she walk in front of me (and I think Hubs might have been present) with her bath towel hugged around her with a smirk on her face and as soon as she was in reach I snatched her towel. She wrestled me for that towel as I pushed her towards the front door and right out on the porch, finally snatching the towel away and locking the door. She screamed at the top of her lungs and I cracked up laughing on the inside for all of 60seconds, that felt like about 10 minutes, until my mom told me to open the door.

Needless to say, she never tried me like that again.

Now moving rith along to my baby brother. I use to TORTURE my brother and I think it started from when he was born. I was four and I can remember pinching him in his sleep to make him cry. Hee hee! Yeah I was cruel. I had come along and stolen my spot and he had to pay! Okay, I sound a little evil, but really I was a good little girl.

He just made it so EASY to torture him. He cried about EVERYTHING! And my mom would get so mad because I would do anything to make him holler.

There was the time I locked him out on our balcony while he and I were home alone. That one back fired because he kicked the glass door, shattered it and we BOTH got in trouble.

There was a song I use to sing to him that instantly sent him into tears. Okay, you know the Patti LaBelle song, "Somebody Loves You, Baby" right? Well I changed the words around and would sing, "Nobody Loves you baby! No No No! Nobody loves you, Baby! You know that it's TRUE!"

Hmmm, there was the time I put him in the head lock until his nose bled.

I can't forget the time I pulled him off the top bunk of his bunkbed. Okay, that one I did feel bad about, but he was messing with me first. That was around the time he started to fire back and in my horrid teen years, he started calling me Pimple Face Patti. Okay, it's not that funny guys.

Remember the Hefty commercial back in the 80's? HEFTY HEFTY HEFTY! WIMPY WIMPY WIMPY! I use that one against hime as well. I was hefty! He was wimpy! And I'd go on and on and on with it all day because it made him mad.

So that's just a small little bit of how mean I was to my siblings, simply because I could. Can't really give out too much more. It might tarnish your image of me ;-).

And Hey! I was the oldest. It was my job!

I'm literally ROFL right now remembering me and my cruel ways.

Writer's Workshop Assignment: When I'm upset....

Writing Assignment's from Mama's Losin' It are so much fun. They make you think. If you haven't gotten in on the fun, if you sometimes suffer from a little bit of writer's block or if you just wanna read some of the other assignments get your bottom over to Mama Kat's and join us!

When I'm upset....

Everyone who lives with me know it. I yell, I throw things. Frankly, I could use a little anger management. Inside the home, I can really voice my problems. Poor Hubs catches the worst of it. When I'm upset, it's hard for me to let things go. I can hold one hell of a grudge!

On the other hand, when I walk out that door. It's like night and day. No one would know that I was just screeming at the top of my longs because I instantly become a breath of sunshine. Okay, maybe that's taking it a little far, I certainly changes faces pretty damn quickly. I'm all smiles with the neighbors or people I encounter. I feel like my personal feelings are my own and I don't really like to share them.... well, umm, I mean, except with all of you guys, of course. Hee hee! If, Joe Six Pack pissed me off during PTO today, you better believe that hubs is going to hear about it. Loud and clear! But others may never know.

No I know all of you have seen an episode or two of Desperate Housewives. Yeah, it's kinda like Bree. On the outside, all perfect (as I most obviously am) and proper. On the inside, raving mad!

I know it's not healthy. Been told I need therapy. But that's just the way it is WHEN I'M UPSET!

Writer's Workshop: 10 things I believe in

Mama Kat's done it again! I think I talk about her more often than I talk about myself on this blog. She is Just That Wonderful! For the rest of her prompts and to join in on this week's assignment click here. Well this week prompt that I took from her workshop is:

10 things I believe in

1. God - my biggest belief

2. The power of prayer - Honestly, I never knew the power was so strong until my dad's brain surgery back in February. That's when I became a true believer.

3. My children - I believe in them and the things that they can accomplish. I believe in giving them the ability to be kids and dream big dreams. I believe in giving them all of the necessities in life to be what ever they choose to be in the future.

4. My Husband - I believe that he will always do his very best to take care of us. I believe that he will always do what's best for his family. I believe he loves me because nobody else could put up with my mess!

5. Family - When times are hard and no one else can be there for you, your family will be there, with open arms.

6. Discipline - Children have to have a structured lifestyle. I believe that without a certain amount of discipline, a certain amount of strictness (is that a word?) from their parents, it will be hard to succeed in life.

7. Spanking (agree with Mrs. D) - I'm sorry to those that don't agree, but a spanking, not a beating (there is a difference), is a much needed attitude adjuster when the little ones are out of control or have done something they know that shouldn't have done. A smack on the behind is not child abuse.

8. Miracles - I believe anything can happen. Anything is possible.

9. Ghosts - Hubs and I disagree on this one. I believe that there are ghosts or spirits out there that watch us. I believe in Sylvia Brown! She says it so it has to be true!

10. Pawning my children off on someone else every now and then just to get a little SANITY!

Writer's Workshop Wednesday

Mama Kat's Assignment for this week was as follows:

Here are your prompts:
1.) Write about a brief, but scary encounter with one of your old professors or teachers.
2.) If I had the power to change something I would change...
3.) You are 20 years in the future, write a letter to your today's self.

I chose #3:

Dear Kay,

Girl, you think you're hot at 30, wait until you get to be 50 twenty years from now. Girl we are stunning and life is glorious! 50 is the new 30, child and we are workin' it!

Diva, after you got that Hip Hop Abs DVD you've been wanting, you got your but up and worked off those extra pounds you been complaining about. And, Honey, we are HAUTE!

I know things ain't all that easy right now Our finances aren't where we want them to be, but that is neither your fault or Hubs' fault really. It's that darn economy your are in right now. You and Hubs need to work on getting a good savings together. Life doesn't get any easier and you have to be prepared for whatever it throws at you to survive.

Wow! I know you're thrilled that Bush is finally getting out of office. It's gonna take a good President to get the US outta this mess. And I'm not gonna tell you who wins this one. You'll find out soon enough.

Girl, you have got to see these handsome boys you have raised. They have grown into some great young men. And Kennedy, still just a pretty as she was at three and Miss Thang is being the normal little young woman, is in college and handling her business. They are all just as great as you raised them to be.

Honey, that dream you have of having that degree in business administration is in your grasp. On the day you got it you were so happy and proud. Go ahead now, don't wait, and sign up for those classes. It is surely going to be worth it. And that career in Real Estate you want to go after in a few years when the kids are older? Hey, I'm having so much fun doing it. Don't let those dreams die. Don't let anyone steal 'em.

Your next twenty year ain't gone be easy, by far, but you are going to have a lot of joy getting here! You're on the right path, Diva. Make it all happen!

Love ya!
50 Year old YOU!

Writer's Workshop Wednesday

Sorry guys. My Wednesday Assignment is soooo LATE, but maybe Miss Kathy will only dock me for a few points. My computer has a Virus and I'm working despite that right now. *shhh. Don't tell Hubs!***

Letter to my 10 year old self:

Dear Kay,
Looky here Miss Thang! Life ain't all thrills and fancies, okay. So enjoy it while you can! Stop secretly being jealous of your best friend, Shay just because she has developed her boobs and you haven't! Sure she has about a C-cup already and you're not even wearing a training bra yet, and sure all the boys flock to her because of her boobs, but believe me! Yours will come in soon enough. And they'll keep coming! And when you're in your twenties, you'll be thinkin' about getting a reduction because there just aren't any cute bra and pantie sets in your size! Besides, guys will notice you too one day. Maybe not for a few more years, but they will look your way in middle school. It just won't matter because your dad is gonna have you so scare to talk to boys that you won't have your first one until 10th grade anyway! So go study something! That's where your head should be anyway!

Enjoy it now!

And Please get over that whole, Julius Battle thing! You're in the 5th grade. He's in 8th grade. The boy doesn't even know you're alive, other than when you and Shay walk by the high school, gigglin' and snickerin' like a couple of school girls (which... you... are, right? My bad! What's "My Bad" mean, you ask? Oh, you'll get with that saying somewhere in the '90's)

And please..... try to start getting to school on time. At least one day a week. Waving at all the kids in class staring out the window 30 minutes after class has already started every day is ridiculous! You are your mother's child, I know. Being on time is just not in your genes I guess, but you have no idea how that is surely gonna carry over to your adult years! Not A GOOD Thing!

Oh, and last thing. Next year, when you are 11 and you get the chicken pox, don't let your dad, the very smart medic in the family, (HA!) pull the scabs off your face just so that he can take you out and people won't see that you have chicken pox. The scars will remain there FOREVER!!!!!!!

Love,
The 30yr old YOU!
